1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Conventions help a magazine to create identity, this helps a magazine stand out next to the competition and also it helps people to recognize a good magazine compared to bad magazine that as made no effort. Some magazines are more conventional than other because there are many different area to cover in a magazine for example, Music, Gardening, Food & Drink, Home ware and others. However it also does depend on the target audience because different people want different things.

My Magazine is for the emo, goth, hardcore scenes i took many influences for Kerrang, Rock Sound and Metal Hammer these magazine cover the target audience that i wanted to do and also it helped me know what my audience wanted. it also help me style my magazine in a way that my audience would like and want to buy it, i also covered an area of a scene that Rock Sound and Kerrang didn't cover so that people who buy my magazine will have something different to read about.  I liked this because i knew that people weren't going to think that i coped the other magazines.

Magazine That Inspired Me

Front Cover.

This is the masthead for my music magazine Pure Collision. I came up with the name Pure Collision when i was browsing on the internet and come across it, i think this name is different and i like it because i know that another magazine does not have the name. This heading is a pink colour i chose this colour because pink and because it always stands on on different backgrounds, also the black and pink go really well together. Plus the colour scheme fitted in with the type of magazine that i wanted to do because my magazine is mainly for emo, goth, hardcore scenes. I chose the font black casper because i like the whole ransom note style and i think it fits in well with my target audience. i also like this style of writing stands out it is also very easy to read. With my coverline i only added the three main headings in my magazine. I also stuck to the colour scheme of pink, yellow and black. also i added the blackness behind the lettering to make it stand out from the background. With my main image i added the of my mates band Hung Drawn and Quartered i knew that they were good for my music magazine because they were the type of bands that i listen too and also they had a style of we don't care what you think. i made the sit on a play area for the photo shoot and just act natural and the lead singer Matt Turner was saying he wanted to do some funny shots so i let them and it turned out to be on i used on my front cover.

 Double Page Spread.
With my double page spread i decided to it on my favorite band Bring Me The Horizon and i was lucky enough to have gone to one of there gigs recently so i had images of the band. In my double page spread i also kept to my colour scheme of black, white pink and yellow, i also kept to the ransom note heading as well so it goes with my front cover. I decided to go with a two collum structure for my double page spread too keep it simple and so that the reader did not have a lot to read. i also added the big B at the front of the to show that the text is starting and then i added a small box at the end to show that the text is finished. I added pull quotes to the text to show important information and also i think that it makes the article easier for people to read and it also breaks the article down, and finally the sub headings to show that i was changing the subject or adding imporant information under the heading. i like how my image has blended in with the background this help the image look bigger and also more clearer. The kicker in the double page spread is clear and yellow so it stands out and catches your attention.

Contents Page.

With my contents page i used the style of one of the magazines that influenced me the most in my music magazine Kerrang, i liked how there contents page looked simple and easy to read also they did not try cram a lot in only the information that you actually needed. I think this makes my content page look better because it has the images of the bands and the imporant information needed to go with the image. I stuck to my colour scheme again to make sure that it goes with my front cover and double page spread. I added a pull quote into the contents page to make the page look that much more interesting.

  1. Some good points made. You need to explore more conventions from the double page spread. Have a look at the worksheet on conventions and try to explain your use of more of them - eg pull quote, kicker etc.
